Sex Education

From a biology teacher doing their best to avert the topic of reproduction to decriminalizing sexual harassment on ground in the interest of protecting the reputation, the topic of sex is regarded as rather a taboo in educational institutions in Bangladesh.

Putting a veil to the understanding of how sex works and how it does not, and with a very easy access to television and internet, children are ending up with a concept of what sex is that proves to be traumatizing for someone's life. There has been a high rise in sex related crimes in many places including Bangladesh, which is horrifyingly alarming. While there has been a certain extent of training for women and girls, to protect themselves from such harassment, there is also a tragic lack of sex education in schools.

The topic of sex is made to sound taboo, so much so that a parent is the most uncomfortable teaching about it to their own child.

Turning a blind eye to sex education at school bars children from debunking the myths they learn from media consumption. The concept of consent stays to be unclear or non existent in their minds, and it is a reason why some men and women grew up to not consider harassment to be a huge crime, sexually objectify women to a terrifying degree leading to women and minorities left oppressed in the land people before us achieved independence.

Sex education is crucial to a reduce the number of monsters that are running free and making this country a place for someone to not feel safe in their own room. It would also play part in recognizing what safe sex practice is, so an educated Bangladeshi citizen is aware of the sexually transmitted diseases they may be capable of spreading, thus giving rise to a healthy Bangladesh, with safety built by education.
